Riko signed contract with HESS

13. 3. 2014

Today, at Brežice Castle, the Director of HESS, Bogdan Barbič, and Director of Riko, Janez Škrabec, signed a contract for the supply of hydromechanical equipment for the Brežice Hydroelectric Plant, the next in the chain on the lower Sava. After signing the contract, the Director of Riko also signed contracts with his subcontractors in the project.

Hydromechanical plant equipment is highly demanding technological equipment for the safety and operation of a hydroelectric plant and dam structure, ensuring the necessary technological conditions for the production of energy at variable flow rates of the Sava River. The equipment as a whole under this contract is divided into two main sections made up of spillway equipment and turbine fields. The spillway equipment consists primarily of five electro-hydraulically-operated radial locks, the weight of each being about 100 tons, installed in the spillways of the dam structure of the power plant. These represent the most important elements that provide a constant water level in the pool with the normal flow of the Sava River, and thus the production of electricity. With increased flow of up to 1000 annual waters, however, its operation must provide the necessary security for the entire structure, as well as flood protection for the lower water-lying areas.

This group also includes the equipment necessary for the routine maintenance of the radial locks and the dam building. The hydromechanical equipment for the turbine fields is primarily intended for the reliable operation of the inbuilt equipment technology for the production of electricity and its maintenance. It consists of several sub-assemblies such as a floating curtain, inlet grills, locks and lift devices.

The tender documentation and process of submitting proposals was overseen in line with the law on public procurement by HSE Invest on behalf of HESS. The contract for the supply and installation of the hydromechanical equipment at Brežice Hydroelectric Plant includes the planning and manufacture of technical documentation, production, supply and installation of the hydromechanical equipment of the plant with all accompanying equipment and performing of launch tests. According to the Director of the HESS company, Bogdan Barbič, it is good that Slovenia still possesses the knowledge for making the most complex parts of hydroelectric power plants.

The Riko company was chosen in a public tender with much international competition as the supplier of the hydromechanical equipment. Beside the competitive price, Riko's offer features advanced technological solutions with the least environmental impact and includes fully-Slovenian expertise in supply, manufacture and assembly. It also integrated reputable Slovenian equipment suppliers, such as Montavar Projekt, Metalna Senovo, La & Co, Telem as well as Iskra impuls, into its proposal. Upon signing, Director Janez Škrabec emphasized that Riko has established itself as an integrator of Slovenian knowledge and this is what he wishes to pursue in the future also in the construction of power plants in foreign markets.

The value of the contract amounts to € 8,606,159.46 excluding VAT, which represents approximately 8% of the total energy work at the Brežice Hydroelectric Plant. The delivery of equipment was set to April 2016.
