ŠKRABEC HOMESTEAD

The Škrabec homestead in Hrovača is the birthplace of friar Stanislav Škrabec (1844–1918), one of the most important linguists and specialists in Slovenian of the 19th century, as well as the founder of both modern Slovene orthoepy (pronunciation) and the norms of standard Slovene.

A Vibrant Fusion of Tradition and Vision

For over two centuries, generations of the Škrabec family have lived and worked within these walls. After its restoration, the homestead now thrives as an inspiring venue for gatherings and encounters at the highest level, inviting and exciting with its original, thoughtfully crafted blend of tradition and forward-looking vision.

The Škrabec family lovingly restored the old homestead and expanded the estate by incorporating the nearby Kersnič Forge which, after renovation, enriches the homestead’s program with new exhibition and gallery content, and Boštjan House, which, with its guest accommodations, adds new life to the already vibrant rhythm of Hrovača.

Hrovača - one of the most beautiful villages

Hrovača has long impressed the Tourist Association of Slovenia as a friendly, hospitable, and tidy clustered village with well-preserved traditional architecture and an old village center, where local heritage is woven into the everyday life of those who still make it their home today.
